Signal-Return is thrilled to present, “Power of the Press Fest,” thanks to support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation as part of their Knight Arts Challenge program. The Knight Arts Challenge funds the best ideas for engaging and enriching Detroit through the arts.
Power of the Press Fest, a first ever festival presented by Signal-Return, is a celebration of traditional printing, visual and literary arts taking place in Detroit April 5-9. Each day, events connected to the festival will take place throughout the city. Power of the Press Fest will kick off Wednesday night at Signal-Return with a Motor-Signal poetry event. Thursday night at CCS—as part of their Woodward Lecture series—Artist Lesley Dill will be the featured speaker. Friday night will see the openings of exhibitions around the city of Detroit, all relating to our festival theme of Power of the Press. Saturday will be made up of opportunities for workshops at local art studios. On Sunday, Shed 5 of Detroit’s Eastern Market will be the site of a FREE, family friendly festival, with vendors, artist demonstrations and literary events. Artist/vendors will have a wide-variety of handmade books, prints, zines and objects for sale. Come participate in free demos and learn about the art of paper making and marbling, letterpress and silkscreen printing, carving, binding, and more!
Power of the Press Fest is supported by a grant from The Knight Arts Challenge program sponsored by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. We also gratefully acknowledge the generous support of the Robert and Toni Bader Charitable Foundation, the Michigan Humanities Council, the Henry Ford, Wolverine Packing Co., AIGA Detroit, KTD Print, Mohawk Paper, French Paper and Modern Sign Studio.
